ADVENTURES ON THE HOPS ‘N SPICE TOUR PART II: FLOATING MARKETS, FRIED BUGS AND MEALS ON THE BEACH… OH YEAH!

This weekend proved to be quite eventful as the Hops ‘N Spice crew ventured Damnoen Saduak and Amphawa Floating Markets. Seemingly hundreds of merchants filled the canals with their boats full of fresh fruits and vegetables ready to bargain with shoppers.

Then it was off to visit a Muay Thai kickboxing camp and watch fighters try to punch, kick, knee and elbow each other out of consciousness. Chris tried to emulate some of their moves but, as the saying goes, statues of kickboxers don’t hit back.

If you’re into buying produce at one-of-a-kind places like floating markets then the equally unique Maeklong Train Market is another place to stop and shop. Produce, snack and meat vendors set up their stands precariously close the train tracks, literally inches from impending doom. As a train full of passengers roared by the locals didn’t even flinch, although, the crew got their adrenaline rush in for the day.

After a couple days full of markets, bloodlust and locomotives, the crew sat down at a restaurant that was a favorite for many locals. With the kitchen set up outside in the alley adjacent to the restaurant the crew ate what was unanimously agreed upon as the best meal of the trip.

Of course, no trip would be complete without some less-than-conventional food choices. Jo lead the way dining on some fresh insects (deep fried creepy crawlers) and Horseshoe Crabs (deep ocean creepy crawlers).

The crew managed make time for an elephant ride as well.

The boys strike a pose. What? No owling Faith Hilling Tebowing Planking?
