This past weekend we had the pleasure of being part of Share Our Strength‘s Taste of the Nation event at The Lot in West Hollywood. Gray Arabia of Global Cuisine helped gather 45 of Los Angeles’ top chefs to volunteer their time and culinary skills to help fight childhood hunger in America. The event raised over $250,000 just off ticket sales alone and the attendees were treated to some of LA’s most talked about cuisine. Some of the more unique items were the squid ink fideuà (Lazy Ox Canteen), Mongolian lamb tartare (Lukshon), an avocado melt with Fritos (ink.sack), morcilla crostini with fried quail egg (Mo-Chica), a trio of shrimp, pizza and “pink slime” burgers (Umami Burger), chorizo con huevo made with mini green chorizo links (FIG) and a pastrami monte cristo (Farmshop).
Chef Kris with Jo Stougaard of My Last Bite
We shared a table with the crew of Night+Market as Chef Kris had three offerings for attendees to try. The sai uah (chiengrai herb sausage), sai krok isaan (a fermented pork sausage) and hor ab (catfish baked in a banana leaf with herbs and spices, think of it as a Thai tamale) were hits with the crowd and all can be found on Night+Market’s regular dining menu. We couldn’t have shared the day with a better culinary team.
Cheers,
Mr. Singha
